The Luthuli Museum Places Heritage at the Heart of Tourism

Spirit of Luthuli Shines on Constitution Celebration

Media Advisory: Monday 9 May 2016

With the South African Constitution in the limelight of the national debate, struggle stalwart, national luminary, and eldest daughter of Chief Luthuli, Dr Albertina Luthuli (80) holds a commemorative celebration at the Luthuli Museum in Groutville, KwaDukuza, to firmly place South African heritage at the heart of tourism through conserving and promoting the life, values, and legacy of the late Chief Albert Luthuli. This initiative forms part of the The Ichikowitz Family Foundation’s #IAMCONSTITUTION campaign encouraging the nation to engage with heritage by reading, embracing and living the Constitution.

This national monument in honour of Chief Albert Luthuli – the first African to receive the Nobel Peace prize for his non-violent stance in the fight for liberation will play host to a programme of reflection, education, debate and joyous performance at the Museum with Dr Albertina Luthuli, KwaDukuza youth, The Ichikowitz Family Foundation and Constitution Hill representatives.

Dr Albertina Luthuli: “What I say to young people is that there is a lot to be done, they are lucky not to have lived through the days of Apartheid, they have energy and education and it is in their hands … Know thy neighbour, love thy neighbour – That will help the process of integration.”
