At the Gauteng chapter of the South African Jewish Board of Deputies Biannual Congress on Sunday 25 November, President Cyril Ramaphosa spoke to the audience in conversation with former Investec chairman Stephen Koseff. The President was presented with a coffee table book Jewish Memories of Mandela, that offers unique insights on the story of Nelson Mandela’s relationship with the Jewish community during the anti-apartheid struggle.
The book, produced by The Ichikowitz Family Foundation, celebrates the centenary of former President Nelson Mandela’s birth.

A few hours before dawn on 12 May 1969, security police stormed the Soweto home of Winnie Mandela and detained her in the presence of her two young daughters, then aged nine and 10. For Winnie Mandela this was the start of a 491-day period of detention and two trials. (more…)
