About our Director

Mandy Jacobson

The Executive Producer of the African Oral History, Mandy is both the CEO of Luthanda FIlms and Indelible Media, multi-media production companies dedicated to showcasing African cinema and television for international broadcast and theatrical release. 

Her award winning documentaries include:

Plot for Peace garnered 7 international awards and was broadcast on Netflix (USA) and in more than 20 countries. Calling the Ghosts, won two Emmy Awards and was instrumental in the recognition of rape as a prosecutable war crime. This Bosnia doc was also featured on CNN, NBC Dateline and CBS Sixty Minutes. With the Bill Moyers team won the Peabody for PBS feature, Facing the Truth about South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Committee. For PBS/Wide Angle; Road to Riches explored black economic empowerment in South Africa’s new democracy. Mandy’s has also directed programs from Bangladesh, Cuba Rwanda. Select others include Locked Up (Discovery/TLC), Defying Genocide (US Holocaust Museum); Tribute to Nelson Mandela, (SABC/BBC – series celebrating the legend); Total Soccer 2010 series – ETV. Member of the USA National Academy of Television, Arts and Sciences Chair, Jorens Ivens Jury, Amsterdam International Documentary Festival(1999) Achievement Award from the South African Minister of Arts and Culture (2001.)
