Through wind, rain and shine, The Ichikowitz Family Foundation in partnership with Constitution Hill and joined by Durban Refugee Social Services lit up the Durban beachfront today in celebration of the defining moment the Constitution was passed in Parliament 20 years ago today on 8 May 1996.
Making their mark with a bold sculpture by local sea sand artist, Lucas Mahlangu, and declaring the Kwa-Zulu Natal seaside as a destination to connect heritage and tourism, the team was accompanied by Travel Massive, a global group of adventurers, explorers and change agents. The traveling team aims to showcase South Africa’s magnificence beyond its physical beauty on a nationwide road trip in an initiative to get South Africans talking about what the Constitution means to them.
The ocean activation forms part of the Tourism INDABA 2016 with the #IamConstitution campaign encouraging the nation to read, embrace and live the Constitution, to celebrate the achievements of South Africa and constructively confront challenges to reach the country’s fullest potential. The innovative campaign created by The Ichikowitz Family Foundation aims to promote the values and benefits of the Constitution by encouraging interaction and dialogue among all who live in South Africa.
