In support of The Kgalema Motlanthe Foundation Inclusive Growth Forum

As part of our ongoing support for bold initiatives in South Africa, The Ichikowitz Family Foundation was one of the key partners to host the official presentation of the Kgalema Motlanthe Foundation Drakensberg Inclusive Growth Forum Report to the Honourable Minister of Finance, Mr Tito Mboweni (acting on behalf of His Excellency, the President of South Africa, Mr. Cyril Ramaphosa). The historic handover ceremony was held on 27 March 2019 at the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC).

The message of support from Ivor Ichikowitz ~ Founder and Executive Chairman, The Ichikowitz Family Foundation
“It gives me great pleasure to celebrate and support the Kgalema Motlanthe Foundation, its Drakensberg Inclusive Growth Forum and the Foundation’s efforts to bring their Impact Report to the people of South Africa. The commitment and dedication of Former President Kgalema Motlanthe and Mrs Gugu Motlanthe reaches us in a period of extreme global uncertainty; where the challenges of being a responsible citizen are more diverse, nuanced and complex than ever. As long as we are able to collaborate across geographies, sectors and disciplines, our forward trajectory will be without limit. Any country that invests in a culture of innovation invests in socioeconomic development. If we invest together, we can create lasting change. The Kgalema Motlanthe Foundation Inclusive Growth Initiative is a call to action. A call to each one of us to help build a continent where we are encouraged to dream big, to challenge the inconceivable and achieve the impossible. This is after all South Africa. It’s worth reminding ourselves that what is often referred to as the miracle of South Africa was no miracle. The democracy we enjoy today was founded on South Africans coming together to dialogue, to listen and to act. Dialogue has always been at the heart of African culture and society, and the Kgalema Motlanthe Foundation is to be applauded for harnessing this tradition. Time and time again we have demonstrated that we can progress from dialogue to collective action in solving our major challenges. In this spirit, we reaffirm our commitment to the vision of the Kgalema Motlanthe Foundation, we reaffirm our proud identity as South Africans and Africans, creating our own future from our own hands and minds. As this Report so ably demonstrates, with a wholly African determination and spirit, I believe we can be the innovation needed to buttress the continent’s unbridled talent and creativity and ascend to the forefront of the global community”.
